How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows give you a variety of incentives for homeowners in Raleigh, one being better energy efficiency. Whether you’re exploring online or with an expert at a showroom, energy efficiency is an important factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great product if you’re looking for increased efficiency.

Many new double-pane windows are filled with argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is denser than air, which provides additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you see that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you’ve likely developed a bigger leak and the gas has been switched with moisture. There are two things that you can do to determine if this is what’s happened:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to make sure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you realize that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can get ahold of the manufacturer to decide if you can claim it under your warranty.
Depending on how old your windows are and the conditions surrounding the leak, it may make sense to take a look at replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important qualities of your windows, and if that is compromised it can affect your heating and cooling costs.
